Keith Evans, president & CEO of Kyma Technologies, Inc. and president of the US Power Electronics Industry Collaborative (PEIC) will present an invited talk entitled "Applications of Wide Bandgap Semiconductor (WBGS) Materials to Power Electronics" at the University of Carolina Charlotte's EPIC Energy Seminar Series.
The fundamental physical properties of wide bandgap semiconductor (WBGS) materials such as SiC, GaN, AlN, Ga2O3, and diamond, offer promise to support smaller and higher performance power electronic device technologies. The U.S. has a leadership position in SiC based power electronics and is playing catch-up in GaN and other WBGS device developments. Kyma is a leading developer of non-SiC WBGS materials and is teamed with the U.S. Power Electronics Industry Collaborative (PEIC) to enhance the domestic power electronics ecosystem in the area of WBGS materials and devices.
Dr. Evans' talk will summarize recent developments in WBGS materials R&D, including specific activities being carried out at Kyma and elsewhere within the PEIC organization. Emphasis will be placed on opportunities for collaboration, with a goal of advancing the field of power electronics and domestic participation therein.
Kyma’s mission is to provide advanced materials solutions that promote energy efficiency. Kyma’s products include a diverse portfolio of advanced crystalline materials (including GaN, AlN, AlGaN, Ga2O3, and MoS2), crystal growth tools for fabricating such materials, and GaN-based photoconductive semiconductor switch (PCSS) devices.
