Kyma is participating in the 2018 Graphene and Beyond workshop, an annual event held by Penn State University.

This year's event takes place this week in State College, Pennsylvania and is organized by two Penn State entities: the Center for 2D and Layered Materials (2DLM) and the 2D Crystal Consortium - Materials Innovation Platform (2DCC-MIP). The workshop brings together a wide spectrum of research scientists within the government R&D community, industry, and academia as a means to build synergy in layered materials and nano-device research.

Attending from Kyma is their CEO Keith Evans. He serves on the External Advisory Board of the 2DCC-MIP, while Penn State Professor Joshua Robinson, the Director of User Programs 2DCC-MIP and the Associate Director of the 2DLM, serves on Kyma's Advisory Board.

Dr. Evans commented, "Kyma has been participating in and supporting Penn State's annual Graphene and Beyond workshop for the past several years. Its a great event with exciting talks by leading international scientists as well as upcoming graduate students, and it has an increasingly strong corporate presence as well, with all participants being keenly interested in the latest scientific advances in crystalline two dimensional materials and applications. It is amazing to see how much progress is made in this exciting new technology space each year both at Penn State and by others throughout the world."

Kyma has collaborated with Josh Robinson and others at Penn State in 2D crystalline materials synthesis and characterization for the past several years and such collaborations are ongoing.

Kyma recently added nanocrystalline graphene materials to its product portfolio, leveraging a strategic partnership with GOLeafe, Inc.

Evans added, "While some of the applications they serve overlap, Kyma's partnerships with GOLeafe and Penn State are highly complimentary. With GOLeafe we are focused on low-cost eco-friendly nanocrystalline materials, and with Penn State we are focused on large area single crystals."

About Penn State University's Center for 2D and Layered Materials (2DLM)

The mission of the 2DLM is to conduct leading international and multidisciplinary research on 2D layered materials aiming at finding new phenomena and applications, that could be transformed into high impact products. The center offers a unique, vertically integrated research education to graduate and undergraduate students, with extremely valuable components including state-of-the-art infrastructure, and research environment.

About Penn State University's 2D Crystal Consortium - Materials Innovation Platform (2DCC-MIP)

The 2DCC-MIP is a national user facility, supported by the National Science Foundation, that is focused on the development of two dimensional (2D) chalcogenides for applications in next generation electronics beyond silicon for digital circuits and flexible electronics.  These materials include 2D transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) films that are only a few atoms thick, topological insulator (TI) bismuth chalcogenide films that only conduct on the 2D surface, and multilayers of dissimilar chalcogenide films whose properties are dominated by 2D interfaces.
